Top rockets hit iraq's green zone housing US. embassy

Barely 24 hours after Iran launched ballistic missiles at Iraqi bases housing American and other coalition forces, two rockets have hit Iraqi capital’s Green Zone. The Green Zone is ahigh-security enclave where foreign embassies including the US mission are based. The fresh attack is most likely to be part of Iran’s retaliation for the killing of its top general Qasem Soleimani.
Reuters reported that Iraq’s military said two Katyusha rockets fell inside the Green Zone, the section that contains the U.S. Embassy, other embassies of Western nations and foreign businesses.media correspondents in Baghdad also disclosed that they heard two loud blasts followed by the wailing security sirens of the Green Zone. The White House and Pentagon had no immediate comment over the rockets fired hours after President Donald Trump declared that Iran appeared to be standing down from military conflict with the U.S. Paramilitary chief Qais al-Khazali said Iraq’s response to the US “will be no less than the size of the Iranian response.” Harakat al-Nujaba, a hardline PMF faction, vowed to avenge Muhandis. “To American soldiers: Do not close your eyes. Revenge for the martyr Muhandis is coming at the hands of Iraqis — until the last soldier among you leaves,” it said.***prbxselfnetwork***
