For years now, hundreds of Yahoo boys have been arrested but their numbers don't seem to be going down. What this tells me is that arresting is not the solution to eliminating this problem facing our society. We have to do things differently. A wise man (myself) once said, "You can't cut down a tree by hitting the leaves. You must attack the roots." That means that we must tackle every problem from the source of its strength. "What is the source of strength for Yahoo boys" One of their best strengths is something we have all ignored. It is their iPhones.
We, as a society, have glued these two entities (yahoo boys and iPhones) together. When you see a man below 35 years of age on the street, this scenario below proves my point. He is young, no problem. He sags his trousers, you start looking at him. He has a crazy haircut, suspicions arise. He has money, a thought starts coming to your head. He pulls out an iPhone, you whisper those words to yourself. Say them with me... "He is a Yahoo boy!" We already know what an iPhone is, right? It is just a mobile phone — similar to the one in your hand right now — that is manufactured by US based company, Apple. So, how did we get to this point where we believe any young boy using an iPhone is a scammer? It could have been a Samsung, Oppo or something else, but why must it be an iPhone in particular? What makes this phone a necessity for them and how is it helping their criminal activities? This article should answer the questions and satisfy our curiosity once and for all. The False Reasons We Thought Before now, I and probably 90% of people thought that the reason yahoo boys liked the phone was simply because it was expensive and it would be a nice way to show your wealth (that is probably why celebrities buy it). Others might have thought it was because of its quality, performance, durable design and much more since that's why a normal person would buy it. However, both answers are WRONG... To an extent. If it were correct, there are hundreds of other phone brands far better than the iPhone and far more expensive too. A notable example is Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. The True Reasons The true reasons are not as obvious, but they actually makes sense when you look at them closely. 1 | Apple's Privacy Commitment: Remember hushpuppi, the infamous yahoo boy/fraudster? One of the main reasons why he is still under investigation and hasn't been completely jailed till now is because they can't get evidence off his iPhone and laptop. Any other phone maker would have by now, unlocked the phone for the authorities but not Apple. Apple believes so much in keeping its users privacy, that even when arrested, it would take a federal order for them to unlock your phone against your permission. Same thing goes for their other products like their computers and laptops. Guaranteed security could prove very useful for Yahoo boys and other criminals involved with technology while presenting a challenge for the justice system as getting incriminating evidence becomes harder. 2 | No IP Address, No Location, No Worries. Do you know what an IP address is? It is a little hard to explain but I'll do my best. Here we go. A phone's IP address is similar to a name tag that you wear in the office. You are the only one that can use that tag to sign in and out. Everywhere you go in the office, everyday you don't come to work, every action you take will be recorded through that name tag. Correct? Well, same thing applies here. Your phone's IP address is its name tag. Everything that you do online on your phone can be tracked using your IP address. Every phone has it's one unique IP address. Most of the time, it is impossible to change a phone's IP address but in the case of iPhone, it is possible. Having this ability is essential for Yahoo boys as their location cannot be tracked down correctly. It will instead, give the police a wrong lead. 3 | VPNs Are Their Friends But Our Authorities Worst Enemy Virtual Private Networks or VPNs for short, are programs or apps that allow a person to hide his true location online. It also makes tracking near impossible to do.
This is how Yahoo boys are able to scam people by posing as foreigners from another country. It also allows them to transact in foreign currencies, cash apps amongst others. While some are available on Android devices, the most preferred ones such as SpyOff are supported by only iOS devices (iPhones). These 3 reasons and more are the actual reasons why most yahoo boys prefer to use an iPhone. As you can see, it helps them with their "business." Then why do many innocent Nigerian youths dream of having this phone even though they have no plans of using it to make money?
