WHAT TO DO IF BITTEN BY A SNAKE

If someone is bitten by a snake, you won't know if it's a dry bite or venomous bite. This post will tell you how to treat any bite as a venomous bite. Dry bites, whereby no venom is released are usually painful and causes redness and swelling.

If the bite is venomous, other symptoms may include a burning sensation to the skin, dizziness, anxiousness and confusion. In Australia, only a handful of people die from venomous snake bite. Knowing what to do and how to treat the snake bite is really essential in keeping the number of deaths down. Step 1 Lay the victim down and provide assurance, do not move the victim unless further danger is present. Step 2 With a broad elastic bandage such as setopress, start at the toes or hand if bitten on the arm and wrap the bandage up very firmly up the entirety limb. The compression bandage should be firm enough to reduce the lymphatic movement but not stop the flow of blood. Ensure that you leave the finger/toes out to monitor circulation. Step 3 Once the entire limb has been covered with the bandage, mark the bite site with a pen or some dirt from the ground. This procedure is help for emergency services personnel. Step 4 Do ensure you splint the limb including the joints to prevent movement. For bites to the leg, this can be achieved by strapping the legs together using slings. Bites to the arm could be supported with a sling. Make the victim comfortable while providing assurance before the arrival of emergency services. ***prbxselfnetwork***
