WOLVERHAMPTON STABBING LEAVES TWO PEOPLE DEAD

Armed police units used stun grenades to storm the flat Two people have died and a woman has been critically injured in a stabbing in Wolverhampton. Police said it was believed a man attacked two women before inflicting stab injuries on himself. The attack happened in a block of flats in Leasowes Drive, in the Penn area of the city, at about 09:45 GMT. A woman and the male suspect, both believed to be in their 30s, died at the scene, West Midlands Police confirmed.  Three air ambulances were sent to the scene. Emergency services at the block of flats Officers said the stabbing was a domestic-related incident. Stun grenades were used as officers stormed the flat in a bid to distract and detain the knifeman, West Midlands Police said. They said the other woman, believed to be in her 50s, had been taken to hospital with critical stomach wounds while two police officers were also injured. 'Paramilitary-style' West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Murray MacGregor said: "A man and woman estimated to be in their 30s had suffered very serious stab wounds. "They were confirmed dead at [the] scene. "Another woman was taken on blue lights to the major trauma centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham with potentially life-threatening stab wounds."  The ambulance service said a "number of patients" were being treated Image caption Police remained at the scene of the stabbing on Wednesday afternoon Armed officers could be seen outside the Highfield Court block of flats. Supt Keith Fraser from West Midlands Police said unarmed officers asked for armed support, which was why stun grenades were used to distract the suspected knifeman. Those stun grenades were "ineffective in stopping this man from attacking officers", Supt Fraser said. Supt Fraser said the two officers received minor injuries while tackling the knifeman. One received a "stab wound to the arm" and the other a leg injury after being chased by the suspect, he said. Mick Brice, a taxi driver, was near the scene when he said he saw "12 or 14 police cars". He said he saw police "shuttling" ambulance staff into the block of flats. A "paramilitary-style" police vehicle came "screaming down the road" and on to the scene, Mr Brice said, before he saw two officers take something out of the back and enter the flats. Resident Kerry Siau was feeding her daughter when she noticed the whirring of helicopter blades from behind the blinds that were down on her windows. The nurse said when she looked outside three air ambulances had landed on Warstones Green between the football goalposts.***prbxselfnetwork***
