COULD IT BE LOVE??

Dear prince, I commend you for utilizing your God given intellect in advising our youths well. I also do have a problem that is bothering me, a lot. I finished secondary school in 2015 and I’m waiting for admission into a university. There is this girl in our church whom I love so much, she’s so devoted to God, extremely beautiful and intelligent, we sit side by side in church and she’s so wonderful in practically everything. I’m very shy and afraid to ask her out because I don’t know whether she would agree, but I know how I feel about her. I love her from the depth of my heart, more than I love myself. Please what do you suggest I should do? Thank you ν Izuchukwu Dear Izuchukwu, I get so worried when someone says, “I love her more than I love myself.” Love is not about competition. You may love this girl as you say but it could also be that you are simply infatuated by her beauty or intelligence or both. You have not interacted with her long enough to know if you have some chemistry because you say that you are shy. How can you then know that you love her?  You only meet in church, I guess once weekly, correct? Listen, if you want to know if you are meant for each other, you must summon courage to say more than simple hello to her. Since you sit together it would be interesting to hear you ask how she enjoyed service. Listen to what she has to say. Develop a friendship first before asking her out. Until you begin to talk, laugh and eat together I am afraid you may not even know the true state of your feelings for her. Your feelings may grow or you may be put off by how she chews her food. Do you know that once you find something that is not so palatable about her character that you will become disgusted and resentful? At that point you may wonder how all that love you confessed evaporated so quickly. You will then wonder if you truly loved her as you thought in the first place. Love my dear Izuchukwu is meant to be patient and enduring. True love takes time to build up. Do not confuse love and infatuation. My advice to you is to get to know her before talking about love to her. Share your service and bible experience after church. You may go for ice cream to further discuss spirituality and religion. For instance you might have an intense (and lengthy) conversation on the difference between being religious and being spiritual.
