TECHNOLOGY LEADERS JOIN FORCES...

MENU MENU Technology leaders join forces July 12, 2016 • Enterprise, Top Stories 6 0 2 0 0 Mellanox, ARM, Huawei, IBM, Qualcomm Technologies Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, and Xilinx, Inc. have joined forces to bring a high-performance open acceleration framework to data centres. The companies are collaborating on the specification for the new Cache Coherent Interconnect for Accelerators (CCIX). For the first time in the industry, a single interconnect technology specification will ensure that processors using different instruction set architectures (ISA) can coherently share data with accelerators and enable efficient heterogeneous computing – significantly improving compute efficiency for servers running data centre workloads. Accelerating applications in the data centre has become a requirement due to power and space constraints. Applications such as big data analytics, search, machine learning, NFV, wireless 4G/ 5G, in-memory database processing, video analytics, and network processing, benefit from acceleration engines that need to move data seamlessly among the various system components. CCIX will allow these components to access and process data irrespective of where it resides, without the need for complex programming environments. This will enable both off-load and bump-in-the-wire inline application acceleration while leveraging existing server ecosystems and form factors, thereby lowering software barriers and improving total cost of ownership (TCO) of accelerated systems. “CCIX enables greater performance and connectivity capabilities over existing interconnects, and actually paves the road to the next generation CPU – Accelerator – network standard interface,” says Gilad Shainer, vice president of Marketing at Mellanox. “With an anticipated broad eco-system support of the CCIX standard, data centres will now be able to optimise their data usage, thereby achieving world-leading applications efficiency and scale.” Anton Jacobsz, MD of Networks Unlimited, a value-added distributor of converged technology-, data centre-, networking-, and security technology solutions, who distributes Mellanox products across 20 African countries, adds that this is a big step forward for the continent. “The rapid increase in data in the region has resulted in the requirement for open architecture to support this trend. Delivering higher performance and value to our data centre customers by increasing the overall performance and efficiency of their data centre platforms will now be a significant reality thanks to the development of CCIX’s straightforward, heterogeneous software.” Staff writer Paid Content Chinese Government Will Never Show This To The Public A New Solution That Stops Snoring and Lets You Sleep New Military Flashlight Every Patriot Needs to Know About Very Hot Girls Doing Stupid Things Forget Pepper Spray, All Women Need This Hottest Girls Doing the Dumbest Things The 13 Sexiest and Most Naked Celebrity Selfies No Need to Diet or Go to the Gym If You Do This Before Bed 33 Photos So Awkward You Can Actually Feel it ? data centreEnterprise « South African Retailer Releases Augmented Reality appTigo Ghana appoints Stephen Essien as Director for Tigo Business » SEARCH TAGS AfricaAirtelappleBlackBerryBroadbandcloud computingEgyptfacebookGadgets and GamingGhanaGoogleHuaweiictict newsinternetIT NewsIT News AfricaIT SecuritykenyaMicrosoftMobileMobile and TelecomsMTNnewsNigeriaNokiaOpinionSafaricomsamsungSAPSecuritySoftwareSouth Africatech newstechnologytechnology newsTelecomtelecom newstelecomsTelkomUgandavodacomwest africaZainzimbabwe NEWS ALERTS Sign up for our FREE News Alerts       LIKE US IN THE NEWS FOREX RATES Exchange Rates: USD/EUR = 0.9029USD/GBP = 0.7538USD/JPY = 106.15USD/CNY = 6.7017USD/ZAR = 14.233USD/BWP = 10.7246USD/EGP = 8.8799USD/KES = 101.4USD/NAD = 14.307USD/NGN = 295USD/UGX = 3357USD/XOF = 593.2USD/ZMK = 5189.5Forex Rates Ticker Widget LATEST HEADLINES Social Media mourns death of SA rally star Gugu Zulu July 18, 2016 Using public-private partnerships for digital solutions to boost Vision 2030 July 18, 2016 Etisalat Nigeria to curb unsolicited messages July 18, 2016 Kenya: Top African Ministers to attend Innovation Africa Summit 2016 July 18, 2016 Seedstars World reveals top 10 startups to pitch in Maputo July 15, 2016 Cybercrime threatens Healthcare sector in South Africa July 15, 2016 MOST POPULAR TWITTER Social Media mourns death of SA rally star Gugu Zulu Top 10 richest countries in Africa rated Bill Gates says Africa’s future rests in the hands of its youth Etisalat Nigeria to curb unsolicited messages Seedstars World reveals top 10 startups to pitch in Maputo Top Ten largest telecoms companies in Africa Online Safety in the Era of Pokémon Go Cybercrime threatens Healthcare sector in South Africa     UPCOMING EVENTS   African Healthcare Innovation Summit | 24 - 25 August 2016, Jhb     Principles of IT Leadership | 24 & 25 November 2016, Jhb     Selling to the CIO | 15 & 16 February 2017, Jhb       COMPANY PRESS OFFICES PHOTOS ON FLICKR NEWSLETTER Would you like to receive the latest African technology news and analysis delivered to your e-mail inbox every morning?
